Here you can find out more about Lucky and Steve:-

Lakshmi (Lucky) DeSilva

Lucky was born in a small fishing village called Unawatuna in southern Sri Lanka. She was a born Buddhist and always wanted to help people who are suffering.  Even as a child, people had commented that she has ‘healing hands’. From a very young age Lucky, and her sister Pearl, attended regular Sil Samadhi (meditation days) on Sundays at the local temple.

Lucky completed her Registered General Nursing qualification in the UK in her early 30’s. She has two decades of nursing experience. She then went onto complete her Nursing degree (BSc Nursing) in 2002. Lucky’s inquisitive nature made her explore nursing in variety of fields such as medicine, surgery, plastic surgery, terminally ill care, hospice care and palliative care as well as District Nursing. Presently she is a practising District Nurse.

In September 2006 Lucky was diagnosed with M E (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) and was wheel chair bound. During this period she was introduced to Tapping, Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and Reiki by her fabulous Counsellor.

Lucky and her husband Steve were both inspired by the effect of these treatments upon her own condition and as a result they went on to explore and study complementary health treatments and have a great respect for it.

Lucky uses all her knowledge, skills and abilities in Western medicine and her Eastern medical practises and brings them to positive focus, for the benefits of her clients, within the practise.  In addition to Lucky’s nursing training she is now qualified and practising as a Reiki Master/Teacher, Holistic Councilor and Foot Health Practitioner.

She likes to describe herself as a ‘hands on practitioner’, who uses her intelligence with her intuition to treat her clients. Her ultimate goal in delivering care is to assist the clients to discover the ‘middle path’. In doing so, she passes on her knowledge to the clients so they can go on to be independent and self caring.

Lucky says that:-

'There are no magic or secrets to my treatments and I want my clients to walk away with the necessary resources and tools to be able to self-care'

She uses core principles of Carl Roger’s Client Centred work with her clients. She came across Carl Rogers work during her Counselling Courses in the mid 1990’s during her hospice work.

Lucky says that:-

'I have to feel what the client is feeling; if I can’t, then I can’t do my work. I have to tune in to their feelings'

She likes Rogerian theory as it closely runs along side of the Buddhist principles that she still holds dear today.

All the care/treatment she gives to the clients is based on her personal experiences of getting herself better. She truly believes that there was a reason for why she ended up in a wheelchair. This has given her a greater understanding of what it is to be vulnerable and fragile.

Lucky is a mother of two grown up daughters and is married to Steve Carter.

Steve Carter

Steve spent the first 11 years of his working life in the Royal Navy and then a further 20 years in property management specialising in shopping centre development and refurbishment.

Although Steve was highly successful, the corporate world was not providing the fulfillment or satisfaction that Steve needed and a change of direction was required.

Taking inspiration from his wife Lucky DeSilva and the positivity that had emerged from their joint approach to her illness Steve felt drawn to complementary therapy.

This was the beginning of a time of great change and Steve took to his new career like a duck to water.

His enthusiasm and focus allowed him to qualify as a practising Reiki Master/Teacher, Holistic Counsellor and Foot Health Practitioner.

Steve has taken the lead in foot care including bio-mechanics and works closely with Lucky in their private practise at The Retreat in Wordsley.
